Welcome to Sir Sam’s your new home! Founded  in 1965, Sir Sam’s is one of Ontario’s oldest and most established 3 season resort located in beautiful Haliburton County.  Sir Sam’s has undergone  significant renovations over the last two years and now has a modernized, expansive chalet and innovative programs supporting all ages and disciplines.   Sir Sam’s mantra “Making Family Memories”  is well known for its safe, warm and friendly environment with a variety of both beginner and challenging skiing/boarding.   Sir Sam’s location and awesome snowmaking team has made it possible for it to be one of the earliest opening Hills in Ontario.

In 2022 Sir Sam’s introduced a number of new summer and fall activities at the Hill under the brand of Eagle View Event Centre (www.eagleviewevents.ca).  These expanded offerings have been very well received by our guests who now frequent the Hill throughout the winter, summer and the fall color season.

Sir Sam’s / EagleView  offers:

Winter

•  14 expertly groomed runs ranging from easy (green) to black diamond.

•  5 lifts including 1 tunnel surface lift for beginners to ensure lines are minimal.

•  A terrain park and one of Ontario’s best Ski/Board cross tracks.

•   A full Ski/Boarding school offering a broad range of innovative lesson packages and various camps including racing, ski, and snowboarding.

•  World-class snowmaking team that has allowed us to open the weekend of Dec 8th/9th for the last two years.

•  3.5KM of marked groomed snowshoe trails.

•  An on-site pro shop operated by Delancey Sports which offers a full range of ski/board retail products  including Sir Sam’s merchandise.

•  A fully equipped Rental Shop which offers ski/board rentals and tuning services.

•   A 19,000 square foot chalet offering our guests the ability to choose how they wish to dine including the Eagle View Restaurant, Sam’s Grab N Go or Sam’s BBQ.

Summer/Fall (colour season)

•  23KM of Mountain biking trails.

•   Biking and pleasure chair lift rides during the months of July and August.9 different Biking and Adventure  Camps during the months of July and August.

•  New Eagle View Observation Tower (opening spring of 2024).

•   Fully catered  event centre for 200 plus people for weddings, corporate events, celebrations etc.

•  New fall colour season including our Thanksgiving Sam’s Fest.

About the General Manager Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible for the overall culture, operations, fiscal integrity, leadership, and strategic planning for the Resort. The GM is a strong, energetic leader who is sales and customer service-focused and has experience working at a multi-faceted business. The GM must be comfortable with the strategic business planning process as well as the ability to manage event and infrastructure projects at the resort as required. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task by taking on new challenges while also ensuring the smooth operations of the resort year-round.

The successful candidate will:

•  Oversee the complete operation of the Resort.

•  Work closely with the Board:

o Participate in the vision and strategic planning efforts.

o Attend board meetings and report to the Board, as required.

o Establish annual priorities and business metrics, and provide monthly reporting.

•  Establish strong relationships with staff, members, and other ski resort and wedding venue GM’s within the region.

•  Lead, coach and motivate the management team and staff.

•  Successfully execute strategic plan initiatives.

•  Maintain familiarity, knowledge and compliance of all resort policies/procedures, health and safety legislation, insurance, T.S.S.A Regulations, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, etc. and assure standards are met.

•  Possess a strong sales and customer service orientation.

•  Ensure the success of all aspects  of member/guest satisfaction, engagement, and safety.

Direct Reports:

Snow School Program and Rental Shop Manager, Operations Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Event Planning Manager, Office Administrator and Bookkeeper. The General Manager will be responsible for the following:

Operational Excellence:

•  Develop and implement industry-leading operating policies, programs/procedures and risk management  practices.

•  Monitor long and short-term financial objectives and reporting.

•  Prepare and execute the financial plan for the Resort, including:

o Developing annual operating, cash, and capital budgets with a seasonal breakdown (Winter/Summer)

o Developing the business into a solid 3 season operation

o Supporting the growth of each area of existing business while also identifying new sales opportunities.

o Identifying cost savings initiatives

o Monitoring monthly staffing and operational budgets and other financial information

o Approving expenditures, invoices and other financial terms before inception or payment

o Prepare and deliver timely financial reports to the Board

•   Ensure each department has developed an operational plan, including defined metrics.

•  Ensure a strong social media presence with special events promoted in a timely manner and posting effectiveness is measured.

•   Remain current with industry trends and new, innovative technologies and ensure the Resort implements improvements, as required.

•  Champion the development of the Resort’s strategic and annual tactical plans, consistent with its long-term strategic direction.

•  Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory  and insurance matters affecting the Resort, including health and safety protocols and processes.

•   Identify operational gaps and initiate effective corrective action, as required and escalate issues to the Board as appropriate.

•   Complete  semi-annual performance  reviews and annual compensation reviews with the management team in order to ensure they are effectively executing their roles and meeting their operational objectives/defined metrics.

•   Identify staff/management training and team building opportunities and celebrate examples of collaboration.

•   Experienced people manager comfortable with working with the management team to ensure defined metrics are in place and held accountable for results.

Qualifications and Experience

•  A University or College Degree/Diploma in Hospitality Management,  Business Management, Ski Resort Management, or a related field.

•   5+ years’ experience as a senior leader at a ski club or other similar top-tier facility.

•  Experience in skiing or snowboarding is beneficial.
