The General Maintenance Technician will be working towards a Ski Lift Mechanic – Certification.  The General Maintenance Technician will learn and acquire the necessary training and skills needed to become certified.  They will maintain a training passport while they learn to troubleshoot and repair any mechanical issues that arise and show progress towards a Ski Lift Mechanic – Certification. In addition, the General Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that the upper & lower landing facilities, are attractive and in working order. The Technician will provide preventative, corrective, emergency, cosmetic and routine maintenance as well as provide a number of technical maintenance services for the upper and lower landings. This position will include such duties as painting, cleaning, repairing, renovating and remodeling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Funicular:

•   Performs repairs and maintenance of the Niagara City Cruises Funicular as permitted by their passport

•   Ensures the safe and efficient operation of the Funicular

•   Operate the funicular as required

•   Completes start up and shut down procedures

•   Identifies and troubleshoots any deficiencies and responds accordingly

•   Works closely with other team members or contractors to ensure mechanical issues are addressed quickly

•   Communicates updates on Funicular repairs, shutdowns and restarts to appropriate parties

•   Works closely with the Manager, Facilities to complete duties and work assignments

•   Advises management of corrective actions or preventative actions when necessary

•   Possesses ability to maintain a high customer service level

•   Responds to work order requests as needed in a timely and accurate manner, and cleans up after work orders are complete

•   Maintains inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment and makes purchasing recommendations

•   Maintains all equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and Technical Standards and Safety Authority

(T.S.S.A.) specifications

•   Ensures compliance with health and safety procedures

•   Completes work using logs, inspection forms, and maintenance databases as required by TSSA and in preparation for ISO audits (as required)

•   Knows and understands internal policy and external regulatory requirements that relate to the position and department

General Maintenance:

•   Supports Marine, Guest Experience, Safety Services, Food, Beverage & Retail, and all other departments with projects, maintenance and operations as required

•   Performs various duties such as painting, fixing, repairing, troubleshooting minor problems

•   Basic carpentry and masonry work

•   Completes work using logs, inspection forms, and maintenance databases in preparation for ISO audits (as required)

•   Possesses ability to maintain a high customer service level

•   Ensures compliance with health and safety procedures

•   Operates large scale machinery such as forklifts and telehandler (as required)

•   Knows and understands internal policy and external regulatory requirements that relate to the position and department

•   Adheres to all health and safety regulations

•   Uses hand tools and power tools correctly

•   Gathers and/or requests materials to complete a job

•   Possesses the ability to self-manage on small projects

•   Works closely with Facilities Shift Manager and/or Manager, Facilities to complete duties and work assignments

•   Performs work in line with Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards and with respect to regulatory and ISO/RMS system compliance

•   Advises management of corrective actions or preventative actions when necessary

•   Assists in preparing the preventive maintenance schedule for all project equipment and monitors the system to maintain and repair project equipment

•   Responds to work order requests as needed in a timely and accurate manner, and cleans up after work orders are complete

•   Maintains records on preventive maintenance and work order requests

•   Maintains inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment, and makes purchasing recommendations

•   As directed, performs inspections of systems. Informs appropriate staff of any unusual activity or maintenance issues in a timely manner

•   Maintains all equipment to manufacturer’s specifications

•   Works with a safety mindset by following all safety policies, procedures and safety measures (i.e.

PPE). Identifies and brings forward risks, hazards and opportunities on the job.  Actively participates in

health and safety in the workplace

•   Maintains a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (refer to appearance standards in employee handbook)

•   Reports to work on time and for all scheduled shifts.

•   Understands all Niagara City Cruises policies and procedures relating to the employee’s role within the

company.

•   Maintains any applicable licenses and certifications

•   Completes any other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications:

•  O.S.S.D or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education

•  Must be willing to work on obtaining the Ski Lift Mechanic Certificate as recognized by the TSSA

•  Minimum two (2) years’ experience in facilities and maintenance role preferably in a hospitality environment

•  General knowledge of plumbing, and HVAC systems

•  WHIMIS (training provided)

•  Working knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out Systems

•  Strong problem solving

•  Experience with ISO compliance & standards considered an asset

•  Must be willing to work all shifts including days/evenings shifts including weekends and holidays

•  Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms)

•  Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods

•  Continually and repeatedly perform functions indoors and outdoors

•  If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
