Operations Manager

Sir Sam’s Ski/Ride is a family ski hill located in the Haliburton Highlands and overlooking Eagle Lake.  Established in 1965 by the Bishop Family it remains a favorite hill for thousands of skiers every year. The ownership of Sir Sam’s Ski/Ride is committed ensuring that families can continue to ski/ride and create lasting memories.

This managerial position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and operation of all departments and equipment related to the lifts, slopes and day-to-day operations of the ski hill. This position will ensure that Sir Sam’s Ski/Ride guests receive the best experience possible by maintaining the ski area to the highest level of quality and safety standards possible.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizes in conjunction with the General Manager the daily operation of the lifts, snowmaking and grooming
  • Provides support to the Lift Mechanic in an effort to reduce costs and create efficiency
  • Ensures that the hill is ready to open for the season as per the scheduled operating calendar
  • Prepares in advance for weather related issues that may cause operational difficulties, i.e. freezing rain or heavy snowfall
  • Oversees the on-hill activity to ensure that crowd control and hill usage policy is being adhered to
  • Maintains a safe and fully functional fleet of equipment and tools that service the hill and its equipment
  • Ensures that an inspection of all slopes has occurred and that the hill is adequately groomed and protected for the day/night use
  • Involved in the creation, and maintenance of the terrain park
  • Works to minimize the amount of downtime experienced for all equipment
  • Organizes and administers a preventative maintenance program for all equipment
  • Enforces standards that keep all areas in the best physical state possible with regards to, but not limited to, electrical systems, lighting, heating and overall structural soundness
  • Ensures that work areas are kept hazard free or that hazards are controlled when appropriate
  • Provides rules and written procedures where required to ensure the safe operation of equipment and work processes
  • Assists in the preparation and execution of yearly off-season projects
  • Provides input to the General Manager for preparation of annual and operating budgets
  • Works with the General Manager to design and complete expansion projects that are completed on time and on budget
  • Ensures the policies and procedures of Sir Sam’s Ski/Ride are administered and adhered to
  • Hiring and supervision of lift and maintenance staff
  • Communicating all daily and upcoming events to direct staff
  • Creates and implements adequate training programs for staff and ensures that the proper documentation exists
  • Continually supports departmental risk management policy and offers support to all those involved in risk management

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, shifts, and overtime during the winter season
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safety and professionalism
  • Management experience
  • Experience in skiing or related industry an asset

Salary is based on experience, knowledge, and skills. This is a full-time position.
