POSITION SUMMARY  

The Snowmaking Supervisor operates heavy construction equipment and/or snow grooming equipment with attachments. They will need to perform a complete snowmaking season and transition into grooming for the remainder of the grooming season permits. This position is only available to a fourth year snowmaker/groomer. The Snowmaking Supervisor will operate heavy equipment in an efficient manner as needed, and grooms trails with the objective of providing an enjoyable skiing surface for guests. They will understand the capability of machinery and understand maintenance functions and gauges. In addition, they will follow all policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes. 

Year Round- $24.38/hr

What will I be doing?

  • During summer months, the incumbent will execute planned projects (terrain and preventative maintenance) to ensure the hill is ready for winter start up. ​
  • Schedules work for all workers in the Snowmaking, Slope and Grooming teams; ensures work is completed to standard; edits Kronos daily.  
  • Operates a groomer as required to assist the team in completing their tasks in the allowable timeline
  • Works with other departmental Leaders to development, document and facilitate   departmental training programs
  • With Manager, creates and updates departmental SOPs (for example, Health & Safety, Equipment Operation etc.). Ensures that these standards are followed.
  • Manages the performance of employees; prepares and delivers performance evaluations, coaches and mentors
  • Ensures all equipment is maintained to ensure proper working order; completes necessary equipment logs and reports; assists in investigations when incidents involving equipment occur
  • Works closely with internal departments and external partners (ie TSC) to build and develop partnerships

What do we need from you?

  • Minimum of 4 years’ past experience in grooming and/or snowmaking
  • Previous leadership experience, preferably a team of outdoor workers in a physically demanding role
  • Must hold valid G class drivers’ license with satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Must have experience operating snowmobiles. Operation on steep slopes an asset.
  • Strong understanding of general on-hill operations including snowmaking start up, shut down, locating and setting up snow guns, emergency procedures, etc.
  • Knowledge of OHSA and TSSA Regulations
  • Strong communication skills; able to explain things clearly and organize information effectively
  • Familiarity with Blue Mountain trail systems and procedures is an asset
  • Knowledge of excavating and trenching construction methods an asset
